SPEAC:

SPEAC is a group of dedicated volunteer parents and guardians who work with the school district to ensure all children with special needs and learning disabilities are educated effectively. Our goal is to provide the resources needed from the preschool age child to the high school graduate and beyond. We assist families in reaching supports of all types. Volunteer Opportunities:
Will be announced by the HPTA and the school. ALL VOLUNTEERS IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM MUST HAVE A VALID CORI REPORT ON FILE. PLEASE STOP BY ANY SCHOOL OFFICE TO FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. More information about the CORI process is available on the school's district's home page www.hopkinton.k12.ma.us, where you may download and print a CORI application. CORI checks are valid for three years.

  • Backpack flyers and notices: Most will be posted on the school website on Fridays: E-Flyers. To receive an email once a week when new flyers are posted sign-up online at http://www.hopkinton.k12.ma.us/newweb2/administration/listservs/listserv.php.
  • Some forms, which need to be filled out and returned, will be sent home via backpacks on Fridays at the Elementary and Middle School level. No backpack flyers are distributed at the High School.
  • Flyers and notices are also available at the magazine racks at the entrances to several of the buildings.

School Handbooks:

•  The Source Book has District and HPTA calendars, information and key contacts. This is posted online and linked from both the District Webpage www.hopkinton.k12.ma.us and HPTA webpage www.hptaonline.com. For those of you who wish a printed, bound copy, this may be purchased at Action Copy Plus (508-497-8918) on 34 Main Street starting at the end of August. If you purchase a printed copy, please note that some of the dates may change during the year. Check your email for updates. The Source Book also contains a comprehensive listing of other youth-related organizations in town - e.g. sports organizations, scouting, Youth Commission, etc.

•  School-specific handbooks are in the school agendas supplied by several of the schools to each student.

Interim Progress Reports & Report Cards: Sent home with your child. The distribution dates are listed in the Source Book . Contact your child's teacher with any questions. For Middle and High School students, parents should create an IPASS account (via the school website homepage) and check grades online.

Reports, Minutes and Plans: The Hopkinton School District 's Strategic Plan, School Committee meeting minutes, school improvement plans and School Council minutes are available in the Superintendent's office. Many are also available on the District webpage.

Routine Meetings:

Parent/Principal Meetings: A Principal or guidance counselor hosts informal coffees (group meetings). These provide a chance to ask questions and gather information. Check the calendar in your Source Book and look for Listserv announcements during the school year.

HPTA Meetings: General Meetings are held periodically during the year, and are listed in the Source Book. Look for notices. Feel free to attend. http://www.hptaonline.com/genmtgs.html

Parent Education Programs: HPTA-sponsored programs are planned throughout the year, some with outside sources, to help us stay informed about issues facing children and parents. They are listed in the Source Book, on the HPTA website, and will be announced via Listserv.

School Committee Meetings: The School Committee meets the first and third Thursdays of the month at 7:30 PM in the Middle School Library. These meetings are televised on HCAM-TV, Comcast Channel 8/Verizon Channel 30. The podcasts of the meetings are also available on the School Website.

Electronic Media:

Hopkinton Schools Website (www.hopkinton.k12.ma.us): The site provides links to each school, the District Administration page, the School Committee page and the HPTA page, as well as links to other organizations which directly support the district. Each link provides information and email addresses for contacting teachers, principals and school administrators. Many teachers also have homework and classroom web sites.

ListServ ( http://www.hopkinton.k12.ma.us/newweb2/administration/listservs/listserv.php ): Sign up to receive e-mails from your children’s schools, or from the district.

HPTA Website (www.hptaonline.com): The site provides information on the opportunities provided by the HPTA as well as contact information for all of the school-based HPTA Boards and the town-wide Board.

iPASS (ipass.hopkinton.k12.ma.us/school/ipass/syslogin.html): The site provides parents access to their child's historical student information such as attendance record and test scores. This is currently only available for High School and Middle School students. To sign up, visit the site and apply for a password.

HPTA E-mail: Members of the HPTA can sign up to be part of the e-mail service to receive updates of HPTA events, programs, activities and issues related to education. Sign Up Online!

EducateHopkinton (www.educatehopkinton.com): Educate Hopkinton's goal is to keep people up-to-date on the budget process and the Town's financial needs. Includes Town Meeting and Voter Information as well as many helpful links.

HopNews (www.hopnews.com): HopNews is a local electronic newspaper which has many updates about school events and schedules.

Cable: HCAM (Comcast Channel 8/Verizon Channel 30)- programs (e.g., School Committee meetings), Hopkinton announcements/Community Bulletin Board (includes some school information)

Other:

Town Library: The library has copies of the School Committee's Strategic Plan for the Schools, Annual Report for the schools, The Runner, town studies, etc. It sometimes has signup/registration forms for various groups.

School Bulletin Boards: These are updated monthly and found in the lobbies of the various schools.
