Variety of Activities Keep Preschoolers Busy and Warm

Posted Feb 12, 2011

The Hopkinton Integrated Preschool has been keeping busy during these freezing months. Whether the children are using their new slate chalkboards to practice their letters, listening to the amazing Mrs. Grady the Music Lady, or just playing with their friends, they are certainly staying warm!
The HPTA held a Professional Picture Fundraiser in December, which raised $305 for Mrs. Grady’s music enrichment program. There were nine families that participated; some even brought their dogs with them!
We would also like to extend a warm welcome to Lydia Munger, who has stepped in to fill in until Kim Sullivan returns from maternity leave.

Integrated Preschool Begins Year with New Laminator

Posted Aug 29, 2010

Welcome back to school all HIP students, faculty and staff!  The HPTA is anxious to start the year and excited about all the things to come in 2010-2011!

One item that will make things easier for all at HIP is the new laminator purchased from HPTA funds during the summer.

“Every staff member uses the laminator to protect materials that are made for student instruction and skill reinforcement,” says Kim Sullivan, Preschool Coordinator “especially in the beginning of the school year, the laminator is on and functioning more than not.”

With additional HPTA funds the students at the preschool will benefit from various enrichment programs planned throughout the year. Mrs. Grady the Music Lady is scheduled to come into each class on a monthly basis. This preschool music program provides children with early exposure to an active, participatory musical experience that can help them establish a foundation of creative beginning music skills. The development of these music skills also assists and enhances the child’s social, cognitive, and emotional development, as well as encourages phonemic awareness and memory.

From letter sounds, opposites and rhyming to counting and graphing, Mrs. Grady touches upon it all.  The best part – the kids LOVE it!

The HPTA would also like to welcome back Laurie Ryan, whose stay as Speech and Language Pathologist was extended when Mary Lynn Freedman decided to remain on her maternity leave for the duration of this coming school year, and to Heather Woodruff, physical therapist at the Preschool, Middle School, and Center School, who is returning from an extended leave.

There will be plenty of volunteer opportunities during the year.  Look for more details to come about baking at one of several bake sales planned at various HPTA events.

Another Fantastic Year at HIP!

Posted Jun 20, 2010

The Integrated Preschool concluded its year with a lot of fun festivities.  A visit from Animal Adventures, beach day, pajama day, and the annual end of the year celebration where families were invited to come see a special performance and share some refreshments, all provided the children a nice break from their routine, and gave the opportunity to showcase some of what they have learned during the year.

An HPTA donation and numerous fundraising events proved to be of utmost importance in helping the preschool achieve its goals.

“Once again, the preschool staff would like to thank the HPTA for their ongoing support,” said Kim Sullivan, Preschool Coordinator.

With the monies provided the preschool was able to continue its music program and purchase fine motor curriculum materials and a new laminator!

Sullivan went on to say “on behalf of all staff at the Hopkinton Integrated Preschool, we hope all of our preschool families have a happy, healthy and safe summer.”
