Elmwood School Volunteer Opportunities

  • Library: Assist Librarian with shelving books and general help during school hours, as well as other special projects throughout the year. Some projects may be worked on at home at your convenience.
  • Math Tutor Task Force: Assist students with math skills such as practicing math facts, place value and making change. This takes place from 2:30 until 3:10 once per week.
  • WEE Deliver: Assist with the coordination and implementation of the WEE Deliver program. This opportunity requires that you have the ability to come to Elmwood immediately following afternoon dismissal on either Tuesdays or Thursdays until 3 PM.
  • Art Room: Assist Ms. Muir in the Art Room with a variety of projects. Assist children and Ms. Muir during classroom sessions. Some projects can be worked on at home at your convenience. Extracurricular: Work with co-chairs to organize and plan the exciting after-school activities that the HPTA sponsors at Elmwood and at off-site locations. Includes contacting activity leaders/teachers and scheduling programs. Activities take place at dismissal time.
  • Fundraising: Assist with various PTA sponsored events held throughout the year. Most events are not held during school hours.
  • Other Needs: We always have unexpected needs for volunteer help that arise during the school year. If you are willing to be contacted about helping occasionally, please check this item.

Special Event Opportunities

  • Playground and Grounds Clean-up: Spend one or more hours cleaning-up the school grounds on a weekend day (Date to be determined)
  • Nurse's Office Height and Weight: Assist Nurse with recording students' height and weight during hearing and vision screening. (Fall)
  • Junior Achievement: The curriculum and 1-hour training is provided by Junior Achievement. Bring your business and real-life experience to the classroom. Session times can be flexible to work around your schedule. Great opportunities for working or non-working parent to volunteer. (Five 45-minute classroom sessions)
  • 3rd Grade Colonial Craft Day: Assist the children with crafts such as rug braiding, tin punching, making corn husk dolls and/or demonstrations of other period crafts. (Spring date to be determined)

  • Field Day Volunteers: Help run field day events that have been designed and organized by the Physical Education teachers. Held for one-half day by grade. (June)
  • Faculty Appreciation Events: We need donations for various recognition events throughout the school year, including baked goods, salads, desserts, etc.
  • Please see the HPTA Board List for openings throughout the HPTA, including Town-Wide Vice-President, Town-Wide Secretary and Elmwood Publicity.
