Bottle & Can Drive

Upcoming bottle and can collection dates are Jan. 28, Feb. 25 and March 31


Time: 8:30am – 2pm
The HPTA collects redeemable bottles and cans (glass, plastic and metal) on the last Saturday of every month at the Collela’s parking lot.
Clean out your garage or basement of those old cans and bottles and help out the HPTA.

Children’s Gallery Family Fun Event is Coming!

The HPTA is beginning to create baskets for its popular Children’s Gallery Family Fun Event.
Classes at Hopkinton schools create gift baskets with specific themes, which will then be auctioned off at the HPTA event on Saturday March 24.
The baskets are always popular, and it’s a successful fundraiser for the HPTA. But we need your help to create the baskets and make this event as successful as ever.
 
Donations will be collected from January 20 – February 18.
This year, we are using Amazon to make it easier to donate items and gift cards. You can buy items from the wish list below.

"Finding the Right Fit for College" presentation move to Jan. 25

Due to a conflict in scheduling, the Jan. 18 presentation “Finding the Right Fit for College” has moved to Jan. 25.

“Finding the Right Fit for College”

Join us for a one-hour, interactive presentation for parents of college-bound high school students.

When: Wednesday, January 25, 7 – 8 p.m.
Where: Hopkinton Middle School Library

Linda Katz, OTR/L of Right Fit College Coaching in Hopkinton will help you and your child get on the right track as you navigate the college planning process.
This presentation will be most helpful to parents of students in grades 9, 10 and 11.

Elmwood Early Release Yoga Classes

Our children live in a hurry‐up world of school pressures, incessant video games, and competitive sports. The bustling pace of our children’s lives has a profound effect on their innate joy. Yoga provides a counter balance to these pressures and teaches techniques for self‐health, relaxation and inner fulfillment. bFit Yoga encourages selfesteem and body awareness with physical activity that’s non‐competitive. Benefits include: increased core strength, enhanced flexibility, improved concentration and calmness. Yoga is great for both boys and girls. Mats will be provided.

Hopkins Awesome April Two-Day Art Workshop

Welcome spring with a multi‐media art exploration! This class will explore: 2D Jasper Johns numbers sculpture, Kandinsky modern art watercolor painting and Chagall surrealism oil pastels. Feel free to send your child with an old t‐shirt or smock to wear over school clothes, if desired.
Grades: 4-5
Dates: Tuesdays 4/3 and 4/10 @ 3:10‐4:10pm in the Hopkins Cafeteria
Cost: $70 for two days

Diversity Reflections Program Winners announced

Entries, reviewed by community judges, were placed by how well the “Diversity Means…” theme was interpreted and delivered.

Reflections recognizes and awards preK – grade12 students’ artistry & creativity at the local, state and
national level. Entries are accepted for the following categories:
Dance Choreography, Film/Video, Production, Literature, Musical Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts.
Competition takes place in four grade divisions – primary, intermediate, middle/junior, and senior.

6th Grade Kids Night Out – Feb. 3

Place: Middle School Cafeteria and Gym
Cost: $5 per person

Sponsored by the HPTA, the 6th grade KNO will have  a variety of games and a DJ who will entertain students at this very popular event.

Box Tops for Education

The next Box Tops collection date is February 10

Hopkins school raised just over $800 from the October collection which helped purchase additional leveled readers for the book room, and library books to connect with literary instruction undertaken in the school.

This was fantastic, so please continue to help the purchase of these valuable resources, by snipping your box tops and sending them in with your child by February 10.

See the Film Two Million Minutes – Monday, March 12th

The film Two Million Minutes helps students, teachers and parents better understand how other countries are educating their young people. It shows how a high school in Joliet, IL, uses two million minutes to help their kids understand the importance of making the most of their 4 years of high school.

2nd Annual Summer Activities and Wellness Fair

Date:March 10, 2012
Time: 10 am – 2pm
Place: Hopkinton HS

This year’s event will be held in coordination with the HPTA Wellness Fair, chaired by Danielle Petrucci, Hopkinton High School Wellness Director, along with Deb Dionne and Mary Mann, HPTA Wellness Coordinators.

Day camps, overnight camps and family camps will have the chance to connect with families from Hopkinton and surrounding towns. The event will be advertised to the Metrowest community, from Hopkinton to Southborough, Westborough, Holliston, Ashland, Framingham and beyond. Hopkinton has received national coverage, including being ranked in Boston Magazine’s Best High Schools in the Commonwealth, Money Magazine’s “Best Places to Live 2009″ and the 2010 Newsweek’s “America’s Best High Schools.”

Hopkinton School District Has New Website

The new Hopkinton Public Schools web site was unveiled at the school committee meeting on January 5, 2012.
The site will be open for community feedback until Feb 4
and will then go live on Feb 4.

New Note From Home Pads

The HPTA and Hopkinton School District have created a new Note From Home to better coincide with each school’s pick up and drop off policies.
The form has been modified to accommodate after school events, bus changes and more.

You can download the form by clicking here.
You can also pick up at Note from Home pad at Action Copy for just $3 per pad, or 2 for $5.
